Bee afraid: Customers panic after surprise swarm takes over Welsh pub

Thousands of bees have sent a pub full of customers scurrying for safety as they descended on a Welsh hotel.

A video has emerged online showing the swarm of up to 10,000 taking over The Yard hotel in Cardiff.

The bees focus their attention on a single outdoor table, but the size of the swarm forced all outdoor diners to barricade themselves inside, Wales Online has reported.

An expert was called in to remove the swarm safely, though pub manager Joe Muldoon still put up a sign warning customers to "bee aware" of the problem.

Beekeeper John Padfield said the swarm had likely emerged from the roof of a nearby hotel.

Witness Lee Gorman said people had been "running and panicking".

"There was a crazy noise and they were all around – just everywhere," he said.

"It was just a mad sight to see in the middle of the city centre."
