Two US Navy SEALs found dead at bottom of training pool

Two US Navy SEALs have drowned in a swimming pool, while carrying out a training exercise in Virginia.

Special Warfare Operator 1^st Class Seth Lewis, 32, and Special Warfare Operator 1^st Class Brett Marijhugh, 34, were found at the bottom of the combat swimmer training facility pool at the Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story, according to The New York Post.

“Both of these fierce warriors were admired and highly respected among everyone who knew them,” Naval Special Warfare Group Two’s commander Captain Pete Vasely said.

“We will continue to investigate what happened. We owe it to the families and our teammates.”

It is believed the men were taking part in physical fitness training in the pool and were not using diving equipment.

Navy SEALs (Sea, Air and Land teams) are the elite of the US military and are trained to fight on air, sea and land.

Authorities said an investigation had been launched into the deaths.

Lewis had been deployed several times to Afghanistan and Iraq and had previously served as a US Marine.
