‘Looksmaxxing’ influencer Clavicular charged with rape: US reports

A “looksmaxxing” influencer known by the online alias Clavicular has been charged with rape in the US state of Massachusetts, according to multiple reports.

Clavicular, 20, whose real name is Braden Eric Peters, has been charged with one count of rape, one count of drugging someone for sexual intercourse and one count of procuring liquor for someone aged under 21, as per court records obtained by NBC News and reported widely in the US.

The offences allegedly took place on May 23 last year and the charges were brought against Peters in a courthouse in Cape Cod on September 8.

The charges were first reported by US publication The Bulwark.

A representative for Clavicular, publicist Mitchell Jackson, told the Hollywood Reporter that The Bulwark is  “exaggerating the status of a case to boost traffic”.

“Clavicular has not been physically served,” Jackson said in a statement.

An arraignment has been scheduled for October 14.

In April, Peters was arrested in Florida on a battery charge related to a fight earlier this year between his girlfriend and another influencer.

The battery arrest was Peters' second arrest in two months.

In February, a few days after the livestreamed fight involving his girlfriend, Peters was arrested by police in Scottsdale, Arizona, for allegedly entering a bar with a fake ID.

State prosecutors declined to charge him.

Clavicular is a prominent member of the online “looksmaxxing” movement, which encourages young men to maximise their physical appearance through bizarre and controversial means – including using a hammer to re-align facial bones and taking drugs.

He was hospitalised in Miami in April following a suspected drug overdose during a live stream.

The influencer also made headlines in Australia after he abruptly ended an interview with 60 Minutes correspondent Adam Hegarty.

He became visibly upset by Hegarty’s line of questioning after he asked about looksmaxxing’s origins in the incel community and his associations with controversial figures like Andrew Tate, who is currently facing charges of rape and human trafficking.
