Bush jumps from plane on 90th birthday

Jumping out of a plane is scary enough for people of any age – but for former US president George H.W. Bush, it is just the perfect way to celebrate his 90th birthday.

With a patriotic red, white and blue flag, the 41st president plummeted towards the ground in a skydive near the coast of Maine yesterday.

"It's a wonderful day in Maine -- in fact, nice enough for a parachute jump," Bush tweeted to his 118,000 followers, prompting dozens of spectators to watch his antics.

It has become somewhat of a tradition for Mr Bush – who is the father of 43rd president George W. Bush – following similar jumps on his 80th and 85th birthdays.

Mr Bush senior was released from hospital in January after treatment for illnesses, though his ailing health didn't stop him making a successful jump yesterday.

“I'm very excited for him, I think it is a wonderful tribute to what a man who is 90 years old and a true, true American hero is capable of doing," one spectator told Reuters.
