Driver passes out behind wheel, smashes through same fence three times

The driver of a recently-purchased Ford Mustang in the US recorded the chaos caused when he passed out behind the wheel, smashed through a fence and went for a spin through a field.

Nebraska man Paul Yearly was cruising along a highway in his new sports car when he suddenly lost consciousness.

The camera mounted behind the driver's seat captured the moment last month when his head tilts and his car leaves the right side of the road.

Stone-cold knocked out, Mr Yearly lets go of the wheel as the car drives down the road's grassy shoulder.

The driverless car avoids slamming head-on into a telegraph poll, veering slightly at the last minute only to smash through a fence surrounding a paddock.

Mr Yearly's head bobs back and forth as his foot remains planted on the accelerator, causing the car spin around at speed in wide donuts.

The Mustang smashes through the fence again and heads back into oncoming traffic on the highway when it turns again.

It then ploughs through the fence a third time.

At that point Mr Yearly wakes up and grabs the wheel, stopping his car to survey the carnage.

When he posted the video on YouTube yesterday, Mr Yearly said his sudden loss of consciousness was due to a "Previously unknown medical condition".

"I have never passed out in 26 years, but suddenly passed out and crashed," he wrote. "The new mustang (sic) I bought was trashed."

For the moment Mr Yearly is barred from driving as he is treated with medication for the condition he says relates to his blood pressure.

He said his insurer State Farm refused to pay for the damage to his car because he was "just hours past the comprehensive coverage deadline".

"They also raised my vehicle insurance rates, removed my safe driver discount, and such.

"I have never caused an accident before, so that was a stab in the back," he wrote, adding: "At least they paid for the fence."
