Dolphin bonks kid on the head, parents sue

A US couple who claim a dolphin bonked their son on the head with a plastic toy causing him injuries have filed a lawsuit against the aquarium.

Ashley Lehman and Jeremy Benedict are suing Baltimore's National Aquarium for $16,454 damages for pain and suffering after the April 21 incident, Courthouse News reports.

The three were standing near the dolphin pool after a show when staff at the aquarium handed the dolphin a white plastic toy, the lawsuit claims.

Just as the family were leaving the dolphin tossed the toy which hit the little boy on the head.

"The dolphin pushed the white plastic toy out of the pool, striking the minor in the head, causing him injuries," the lawsuit claims.

The family are suing for negligence however the extent of the boy's injuries have not been reported.
