A baby girl has incredibly been pulled alive from a drain in Texas after being thrown 10 metres from a car during a crash.

A firefighter at the scene said only “divine intervention” could have saved the eight-month-old child after her family car collided with a truck in Texarkana, KSLA News reports.

Firefighter Josh Moore was one of the first responders at the scene and said the baby’s family initially couldn’t find her.

Mr Moore and other emergency workers quickly began to search hay along the median strip for the baby.

"We immediately began searching in the hay," Mr Moore said.

"A Good Samaritan was already out here searching in the hay and he claimed he heard something in this general direction."

When they removed a layer of hay from a drainage grate, around 10 metres from the road, they found the baby trapped beneath it.

"The baby at the time - the eight-month-old - was actually sitting down in the grate, sitting up and looking up at us waiting for us to pull her out. She wasn't screaming, she wasn't crying, was just sitting there waiting for us,” the fire department captain, Charlie Smith said.

"We reached down there and she more or less had her hands up for somebody to pick her up. It took 3 of us to work her around the grate and get her back up through.”

Mr Smith said it was a relief to attend a crash which had a positive outcome.

“So many times we go out and things aren't okay. And just during the holidays here to have a positive just feels good.”

The other four people involved in the crash were taken to hospital and treated for minor injuries.

Police confirmed the child’s car seat, which was flung from the car, had not been properly restrained.
