US ranger uses hacksaw to rescue deer stuck in fence

A US ranger has used a hacksaw to cut through the metal fence of a Pennsylvania home after a deer’s hind legs became stuck between its bars.

Animal Control Officer Ed Boegly was called to the house of Carrie Gross Pestronk after she and her son spotted the animal struggling to free itself while on their way to school on Friday.

Mrs Pestronk phoned for help with local authorities contacting Mr Boegly.

With a steady hand and a lot of patience, the ranger vigorously cut into the fence all the while making sure not to slice the back of the terrified animal.

After a few rest breaks, and changes in angle, the ranger felt he had lopped off enough of the fence to give the deer a chance at escape. Despite this, the animal continued to struggle.

“It’s okay, you’re almost free,” Mrs Pestronk, who was filming the rescue, said to the animal reassuringly.

With one last carefully placed kick at the metal the deer sprang clear racing towards a nearby road.

As she and the ranger rushed away from the fence and towards the road, there was no sign of the deer.

“He’s gone pretty good now,” the ranger said.
