US Governor apologises for 'dancing in public'

The 2016 US presidential race between Donald Trump and Hilary Clinton has largely been unconventional, and not just between the two candidates.

Twitter lit up after Democrat Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe showed off his dance moves during a rally with Mrs Clinton’s running mate, Tim Kaine on Tuesday.

One twitter user said the 59-year-old Governor should have left the “twist back in 1963”.

Governor McAuliffe told CNN he had “apologised” to his staff after the celebratory jig.

“I apologised to my staff yesterday, I broke the cardinal rule – I danced in public,” he joked.  

Mr Kaine later appeared on stage with Mr Trump’s running mate Indiana Governor Michael Pence for the vice presidential debate.

Governor McAuliffe praised Mr Kaine’s performance, saying Mr Pence couldn’t defend Donald Trump.

"Michael Pence was in a very tough position," he said.

"He cannot defend Donald Trump, and he didn't defend him."
