Shocked American couple find hidden bedroom camera in Airbnb

A couple renting an Airbnb property in Florida discovered a hidden camera in their bedroom.

Derek Starnes, who works in the tech sector, told US broadcaster ABC Action News he and his wife became alerted when he noticed a black hole on the side of a smoke detector close to their bed.

After taking the device down he realised the black hole was a camera and the distressed couple called police to the townhouse in Longboat Key.

“We seized a lot of computer storage data devices, hard drives, computers, laptops, SD cards, anything that would store data,” Lieutenant Bob Bourque said. 

“We don’t know if there are local victims someone who may have been dating him or a companion that doesn't realise they are being videotaped, and then we have the other side of who he rented to through Airbnb.”

Police later arrested Wayne Natt, 56, and charged him with video voyeurism.

In a statement to police, Natt admitted the camera was used to film sex parties and that all the participants had consented to their images being shot.

He reportedly said the camera was hidden to "give him a better angle".

In a statement to ABC, Airbnb said it was "outraged" by the camera's discovery and had banned Natt from its service.
