Viewers slam the BBC's 'Real Housewives of ISIS' comedy sketch

The BBC has been heavily criticised for airing a skit titled "The Real Housewives of ISIS", which mocked suicide bombings and beheadings carried out by the terrorist group.

The sketch, part of the BBC Two comedy show Revolting, parodies the popular Real Housewives reality television series.

"It's only three days until the beheading and I've got no idea what I'm going to wear," one character remarks.

Another character models a suicide vest for her friends, and a third reveals her husband has purchased her a new chain that keeps her shackled to her stove.

Footage of the skit posted to the publicly funded broadcaster's Facebook page yesterday has been viewed more than 11 million times, and has attracted many angry comments from viewers on the platform and on Twitter.

"This is absolutely disgusting BBC Two! Mocking what happens to the poor innocent people these sick scumbags blows up. I’m ashamed! How dare you spend my licence fee on this atrocious programme!" one user wrote.

"To everyone finding this funny, you're sick in the head," another wrote. 

But some viewers praised the show's creators for mocking the terror group.

"As a Muslim I find this HILARIOUS! Brilliant!" Facebook user Shimul Barak wrote.

"The satire is on point highlighting the pathetic ideals of a pathetic group like ISIS.

"Has nothing to do with Islam and everything to do with the stupid folk who are indoctrinated into radicalism over the false ideology that ISIS circulate." 

Three schoolgirls from Bethnal Green in London became the UK's most infamous "jihadi brides" when they joined ISIS in Syria in February 2015.

At least one is believed to have since been killed in an airstrike.
