Scotsman hit by train driven by ex-girlfriend

A Scottish man distraught over being dumped stepped in front of a train being driven by his ex-girlfriend.

Gary Wells, 36, died instantly after walking in front of the train on Tuesday, three weeks after splitting from Diane MacDonald, 29.

The first female train driver on that particular line, Ms MacDonald had to be sedated because she was so upset about the death, the Daily Record reports.

"The circumstances are extremely upsetting for everyone involved," a statement from Scotrail on behalf of Ms MacDonald read.

British Transport Police are investigating the collision but it is not believed to be suspicious.

Wells leaves behind a son from a previous relationship.
