Embarrassed retired air force engineer explains how he got barged by the Queen's marching guardsmen

A hapless tourist filmed being barged by marching guardsmen outside Buckingham Palace, has been identified as a retired member of the United Kingdom's air force.

Gerry Weatherhead, 58, a retired Royal Air Force engineer from Suffolk in eastern England, said that despite the embarrassment, he can see the funny side is his misadventure.

"As a former military man myself I'm more embarrassed than anything else - but no one was hurt and there was no harm done. It's quite funny really!" Mr Weatherhead told the Mirror.

In the embarrassing video, Mr Weatherhead can be seen looking into his large camera as the oncoming tide of foot guards approach him from behind.

One guard does yell, "Make way".

Unfortunately, it was too late for Mr Weatherhead to hear. He and his wife were then dragged by a guardsman and stumble out of shot.

"I was visiting London with my wife and we thought we would go and see the Trooping of the Colour, as we'd never seen it before," Mr Weatherhead said.

"It was my fault for getting in the way. It would have helped if they had shouted sooner, but no harm was done and no one was hurt," he said.

"Like I said, I'm just a bit embarrassed."

The video was uploaded to YouTube on Monday by user Steven Macaulay.
