Daughter Bindi vows to clear Rolf Harris's name

Rolf Harris's daughter, Bindi Nicholls, has backed a petition calling for her father's child sex abuse convictions to be reviewed.

Ms Nicholls says her 85-year-old dad, a convicted pedophile, is the victim of a press witch hunt because he was formerly a high-profile celebrity.

"My father is a kind, sweet, honest man on stage and off," Ms Nicholls wrote on the online change.org petition set up by a fan.

"He has worked tirelessly all his life to bring joy, laughter, inspiration and happiness to all he meets.

"I have never witnessed him being interested in children in that way, EVER.

"In public he is more interested in getting groups of people singing or telling jokes than sculking (sic) off with one person."

Harris was convicted in mid-2014 of sexually assaulting four young girls in the UK between 1968 and 1986.

He was sentenced to five years and nine months in jail but is expected to serve less than three years behind bars.

One of his victims was just seven or eight at the time of the abuse.

Another was Bindi's childhood friend, who was abused by Harris for almost two decades starting when she was 13. She became a teenage alcoholic as a result.

Ms Nicholls gave evidence during Harris's trial supporting her father's claim that he'd had a consensual "affair" with her friend.

The court also heard she wrote to him in mid-2012 asking if she was the sole heir to his STG11 million ($A21 million) estate.

Ms Nicholls refused to release therapy notes which the prosecution argued could reveal whether the main complainant told Bindi she'd been abused.

But in backing the online petition, Ms Nicholls argues her father is "nothing like the man the press have been portraying him to be".

"All of his dear friends are shocked and desperately upset that he has been tarred by the propaganda out there," she wrote.

"He has been swept up in a witch hunt because of his high profile and celebrity."

Ms Nicholls on Sunday confirmed to AAP that she wrote the comments.

They were posted online 10 days ago but have only been reported this weekend.

Harris's daughter also pointed to a "Support Rolf Harris" Facebook page.

The change.org petition calls for UK Justice Secretary Chris Grayling to review the case "as a matter of urgency".

It says there's a "serious probability that an innocent man has been subjected to a grave miscarriage of justice".

So far almost 300 people have signed the petition.

Harris himself dropped an appeal bid in late 2014 after his initial application was refused by a single Court of Appeal judge.

The disgraced artist and singer, who's currently being held in Stafford jail, could soon face fresh sexual assault charges.

British prosecutors are examining a "full file" of evidence against Harris after he was quizzed by police in early February.
