Biker guilty of dangerous driving in near-miss crash

A biker who was thrown down a rocky incline while speeding down "Britain's most dangerous road" has been found guilty of dangerous driving.

Jack Sanderson was speeding down the "Cat and Fiddle" in February when he drifted onto the wrong side of the road and found himself hurtling at an oncoming car.

The 22-year-old veered onto the road's shoulder to avoid the car before smashing into a fence which sent him tumbling down an embankment.

Mr Sanderson recorded the near-fatal miss with a helmet-mounted in camera and the high-speed stumble went viral.

He told Macclesfield Magistrates' Court: "I was in full control until I hit the fence. I drove into the fence to avoid a collision."

The landowner is seeking near $1800 to repair the damage to his fence and Mr Sanderson will reappear in court next week for sentencing.

The Peak District A537 road, known as the "Cat and Fiddle" is renowned for its steep drops and sharp bends, making it an enticing challenge for daring motorists and bikers.

Cheshire Safer Roads Partnership spokesperson Lee Murphy told the BBC: "The Cat and Fiddle does have a bit of a challenge mentality and a minority do try to ride it as fast as they can."
