Trump's border wall prototypes revealed

Eight prototypes of US President Donald Trump's planned Mexico border wall are being built in San Diego.

Construction started in late September and is due to finish in a fortnight, with five of the designated models completed so far.

The project started three months late after those who didn't win contracts protested.

Once the prototypes are complete, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents will evaluate their effectiveness over a 30-day period.

The CBP may pick several winners, or none.

The prototypes "will inform future design standards which will likely continue to evolve to meet the US Border Patrol's requirements", the CBP said in a statement.

The agency is also braced for massive protests and construction is taking place under tight security, the San Deigo Union-Tribune reported.
