Trump and Clinton ‘name one positive thing’ about each other

A left-field question in the second US presidential debate drew applause from the audience and smirks from the presidential candidates: name one positive thing about each other.

When asked whether Mr Trump would like to go first, Ms Clinton chimed in she “most certainly will”.

“I think it a fair and reasonable question. I admire his children,” Ms Clinton said.

“His children are incredibly able and devoted, and I think that says a lot about Donald. I don’t agree with nearly anything else he says or does, but I do respect that.”

A pan to Mr Trump’s children showed them barely cracking a smile at the compliment.

“I think that is something as a mother, and a grandmother, is very important to me.”

Mr Trump has five children – daughters Ivanka and Tiffany, and sons, Barron, Eric and Donald Trump Junior.

The Republican presidential nominee said Ms Clinton’s words were “a very nice compliment”.

“I don’t know if it was meant to be a compliment, but I’m very proud of my children,” Mr Trump said.

“I will say this about Hillary: she doesn’t quit, she doesn’t give up. I respect that. She’s a fighter. I disagree with much of what she is fighting for, I disagree with her judgement, but she does fight hard, and she doesn’t quit, and I consider that to be a very good trait.”
