Superstar New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady may be revelling in the historic Super Bowl win, but victory is also marred by the bizarre disappearance of his jersey.

It’s believed the jersey and pads went missing before the trophy ceremony, and some reports suggest the lucrative memorabilia could be worth up to US$500,000 ($654,000).

Brady was heard on camera after the game telling New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft that “someone stole my jersey”.

The league’s Most Valuable Player fronted the media on Monday morning (local time) to joke about the departure of his winning gear, telling reporters: “if it turns up on eBay somewhere, someone let me know”.

“It’s unfortunate because that’s a nice piece of memorabilia,” he said.

“What can you do? I’ll take the ring, and that’s good enough for me.”The Patriots clawed back to seal a thrilling win in overtime against the Atlanta Falcons 34 – 28.

For Brady, the 34-28 win earned him Super Bowl MVP honours for an unprecedented fourth time, a quarterback-record fifth NFL title and also a bit of sweet revenge after serving a four-game ban to start the season for his role in the Deflategate saga.
