Today in History - July 5: Two-time Oscar winner mauled by lion as a nine-year-old
Disney released the adventure film Napoleon and Samantha on July 5, 1972.
But the successful children's movie might never have been released had a terrifying on-set encounter went another way.
During filming, one of the lions involved in the shoot mauled actress Jodie Foster (left).
Foster recalled suddenly being grabbed sideways and violently shaken.
"Every single person on the crew was running in the opposite direction and I'm like sideways watching everybody," she later recounted.
She did not immediately realise she was in the jaws of the lion.
The lion dropped Foster on the instructions of its trainer, and it then pinned her to the ground with its paw.
At the time, Foster was nine-years-old.
The two-time Oscar winner still has scarring on her back and stomach from the lion attack.
She said she still has a fear of cats.
Baseball legend Babe Ruth was knocked unconscious midway through a game on July 5, 1924.
Ruth ran into a concrete wall at Griffith Stadium in Washington DC while trying to catch a foul ball.
Because the stadium was built around a row of houses, the outfield had an unusual corner jutting out at a right angle.
Ruth lay unconscious for five minutes before coming to.
He went on to finish the game.
The previous smallest swimsuit had been named "The Atom".
Réard declared that he had "split the Atom", naming the new design after the atoll where a nuclear bomb had been tested four days earlier - Bikini.
