Thousands swarm helicopters hoping to flee besieged city
The US military began a chaotic evacuation of citizens from Saigon, now known as Ho Chi Minh City, on April 29, 1975, in response to advancing North Vietnamese forces.
Operation Frequent Wind was the final phase of the US pullout from Vietnam after 20 years of bloody fighting.
