Six dead after private jet crashes into Washington home

Six people are believed to have been killed after a small plane crashed into a house in Washington.

The private jet, which was carrying three people, went down in a residential area in Maryland around 10.45am local time and and burst into flames on impact.

The three victims killed inside the home are believed to be a mother who was on maternity leave and her two small children, My Fox DC reported.

The woman's neighbor Marlon Cienfuegos, 49, told New York Daily News the family had three children; a baby boy, a boy around 3, and an elementary school-aged girl.

The plane was on its way to a nearby airport. 

Witnesses reported seeing the plane struggle to maintain altitude before the fiery crash.
