Three Australian men, arrested in July, have been charged in Croatia over the attempted gang rape of a Norwegian teenager in a nightclub.

The trio, one aged 21 and two 23-year-olds, have had their passports confiscated and are expected to face trial next year.

The alleged sexual assault took place in the toilets of a nightclub in the coastal town of Split.

Believed to be aged 18 at the time of the alleged attack, the woman said she was dragged into a cubicle by one of the men, before she broke free of the men and fled.

She reported the alleged incident to police about 90 minutes after it allegedly occurred on July 16.

Croatian media reported no cries for help were heard by any of the staff or security at the club.

The three men are believed to have said the sexual activity they engaged in with the woman was voluntary.

The court has not revealed the men’s identities.
