Texting Audi driver in near miss with young couple

A young British couple were almost wiped out by a reckless driver texting at the wheel.

Dashcam footage from the couple's car captured the near collision with an Audi saloon on a road in Bradford, in northern England, on Tuesday evening.

Matt Brown, 22, and his girlfriend Rosie Caink, 20, were driving in the opposite direction when the terrifying episode happened, reports Metro.

She said they survived due to her boyfriend's swift reactions when he swerved around the oncoming vehicle.

Rosie, from Bradford, said: ‘He was 100 percent looking at his phone. He had his head down and he didn’t look at the road once."

"He was completely oblivious about heading into oncoming traffic and made no attempt to swerve whatsoever."

In March the UK government doubled the penalty for drivers caught using a mobile phone at the wheel to six penalty points and a $400 fine.
