Spanish teacher shot dead with crossbow in school attack

Spanish police have arrested a 13-year-old after a teacher was allegedly shot dead with a crossbow in a Barcelona school.

Several other pupils were also reportedly injured after the attack at the Joan Fuster secondary school in the La Sagrera area of Barcelona.

El Mundo newspaper reports the student arrived to class an hour late and addressed the entire class before shooting the crossbow at his teacher and her daughter, who is also a student in the class.

A male teacher in the classroom next door reportedly heard the noise and came in to investigate when he was shot in the chest and killed.

A student at the school told the newspaper the alleged perpetrator had previously threatened to kill all teachers at the school.

There are reports the male teacher killed was also protecting another student when he was shot.

A 13-year-old male student, who was also armed with a knife, has been arrested by police according to local media.

Four others, including students and staff, were also injured during the attack which occurred about 9.30am local time.
