Sweet-toothed German thieves pull off $75,000 Nutella heist

A truck carrying 20,000kg of Nutella and Kinder Surprise eggs has been stolen in a German heist.

The popular haul of treats, valued at A$75,000, was stolen in Neustadt sometime between 7pm Saturday and 1.30pm Sunday, police said in a statement.

The goods were being transported cross country in a trailer being pulled by a truck. Only the trailer was stolen.

Police are unsure if the heist was planned or if the thieves stumbled upon the chocolate tow and seized their opportunity, European news outlet The Local, reports.

Police are investigating the possibility the incident is connected to two other semitrailer thefts over the weekend.

A fruit juice truck was stolen earlier on Saturday in Wittenburg, 445km north-east of away from  Neustadt, while an empty semitrailer was stolen in Weimar, 25km away from Neustadt on Sunday.
