Stunt racer attempts world record in minus 40 degrees

A Chinese daredevil has had a lucky escape after his car started flipping over in a strong headwind and crashed on landing after attempting to jump a frozen river.

Unafraid of icy roads and minus 40-degree temperatures, driver Xie Yujun made a 40m world-record breaking jump across the Heilongjiang River near the Sino-Russian border.

Xie built up speed by cruising along a 300m-long runway covered in ice.

The jump was successful, but the landing, not so much.

A sudden gust of strong wind threw Xie of course at the last second, causing him to smash his racing car into a pile of cardboard boxes.
