Students in Colorado shave their heads for classmate with cancer

Students from Meridian Elementary School in Broomfield, Colorado, have shaved their heads in support of their fellow classmate with cancer.

Nine-year-old Marlee Park missed weeks of school due to chemotherapy treatment from a rare cancer in her left foot, which had to be amputated.

Upon her return to school, she was met with over 60 students who had shed their locks for donation as a sign of support.

Students and teachers created an event titled ‘Be Bold, Be Brave, Go Bald’ for Marlee, which raised around $25,000 for St. Baldrick’s Foundation to help fund childhood cancer research.

Marlee was incredibly moved by the gesture, which also included selling T-shirts and loose-coin donations.

“It’s just amazing because they all shaved their heads for me,” she told Broomfield News.“I just want to say thank you.”

Several teachers and a student’s mother also participated in the shave, with first grade teacher Erin Dupper allowing Marlee to take over with the razor.

In early March, Marlee was given the good news she is officially in remission according to Fox31 Denver.
