Sometimes on the way to work, you feel like you want the ground to swallow you up.

Of course, when this is a real possibility you will probably change your mind.

One Russian commuter narrowly escaped disappearing into a suddenly-appearing sinkhole while driving along a busy road.

The driver was one of several who noticed the asphalt cracking on the street in Tyumen, Siberia, and wisely chose to drive around it.

But they were mere centimetres from disaster when the road gave way, with a sinkhole more than five metres deep suddenly forming.

Unfazed by the brush with death, the driver changes lanes and keeps on heading to work, with other commuters also driving around the massive hole.

Russian media reports the sinkhole formed from heavy rain in the area.

The video was posted to YouTube yesterday.
