Man arrested after reports of shots fired at California high school

A man has been arrested and another hospitalised following multiple reports of a man with a gun on a campus of a California high school.

The man was seen at Highland High School in Palmdale in Southern California at 7.05am local time (12.05am Saturday AEST).

He was apprehended by police outside a supermarket.

The school's principal urged students to stay away.

Ricky Munoz told CNN he dropped his two younger brothers and a friend off at the school in the morning.

“About a minute later, I get a call from them saying there were gunshots,” he said.

The school was by "cleared by deputies" just after 9am local time (2am AEST) and an investigation is ongoing.

The injured person was self-transported and suffering from minor injuries, a police spokesperson said.
