Seven children dead in Brooklyn house fire

Seven children, including one as young as five-years-old, have been killed after a devastating fire rippled through a house in Brooklyn in the USA.

Firefighters were called to the home early this morning local time after reports of a house fire.

Neighbours told local media a mother and her eight children were trapped inside the home.

One child reportedly died at the scene and the remaining six were badly injured.

They later died in hospital, while a woman and one child were taken to Staten Island University Hospital with extensive injuries.

Witnesses told the New York Daily Post the mother was screaming for help and then jumped from a third level window.

“I heard the mother yell “my kids are in here”,” one neighbour told the newspaper.

Fire investigators are now examining the scene.
