Mysterious rooms found inside Great Pyramid of Giza

Researchers have uncovered two secret chambers deep inside the Great Pyramid of Giza in Egypt.

It has long been a theory that the 4500-year-old structure contained hidden networks, passageways and chambers.

Now, archaeologists finally have proof, after finding an unknown cavities which have been hiding for thousands of years in the northern part of the structure.

Researchers from across the globe came together to form the Scan Pyramids mission, and use state-of-the-art techniques to search the Egypt's largest pyramid. 

"We are now able to confirm the existence of a 'void' hidden behind the north face, that could have the form of at least one corridor going inside the Great Pyramid," one scientist said.

Another cavity was discovered, on the northeast flank of the 146-metre high pyramid, using various scanning technologies including hermography, muon radiography imaging and 3D reconstruction.

The technology is "similar to X-rays which can penetrate the body and allow bone imaging and can go through hundreds of metres of stone before being absorbed," according to Scan Pyramids.

They are now looking to conduct further tests on the The Great Pyramid of Giza, also known as the Khufu Pyramid.
