Suspect arrested after triple stabbing in New Zealand

A woman is dead and two other people seriously injured after a stabbing attack on Auckland's north shore.

Emergency services were called to a property on Mahoney Drive in Albany shortly before 9am this morning, TVNZ reports.

A witness told Stuff.co.nz she was walking to the bus stop at about 9.40am when she saw a person "lying in the gutter".

"He's lying right there, it's like he's been stabbed or something," she said, describing the victim as a man in his 20s.

The suspect, a 45-year-old South African born Brent Scott, was nowhere to be found, prompting police to block off the area. 

Several nearby schools, including Rangitoto College and Pinehurst School, were placed in lockdown after the stabbing.

According to unconfirmed reports, the stabbing suspect may have been heading to Rangitoto College looking for a student.

A mother of a Rangitoto student told the NZ Herald all pupils were told to stay in their classrooms with the curtains drawn until the incident was over.

Scott was arrested by Police before he got there. 

He was reportedly due to face North Shore District Court this afternoon for a case review of unknown charges. 

Hailee Wheeler told stuff.co.nz parents were frantically trying to reach their children at Albany Primary School. 

"There were lots of parents there, they were hysterical trying to get their kids out," she said. 

ONE News reported that a Westpac Helicopter landed on the grounds of Albany Primary School before departing for Auckland hospital.

The two surviving stabbing victims are undergoing surgery and all schools have been reopened.
