Restaurant in China explodes, injuring three

A restaurant in China has exploded, injuring three people.

CCTV captured the restaurant in China's Shandong Province being ripped apart by flying debris.

A gas leak is suspected of causing the explosion, which violently hurled the shop's door frames across the street and into a bus stop where commuters were waiting.

First responders arrived at the scene to find three people had been injured by metal beams torn from the shop's awning.

Restaurant gas leaks are often caused by unstable liquefied gas cylinders.

When in contact with a naked flame – like the restaurant's stove – the gas ignites and explodes the pressured cylinder.

Shandong is a coastal province in China's North East. It is the second-most populated province in China, with almost 96 million people calling Shandong home.

The three victims had been taken to a local hospital in nearby Qingdao City.
