A rare drawing featuring Tintin has sold for more than $780,000 at an auction in Paris.

The artwork, by Belgian cartoonist Herge, was painted with Chinese ink and watercolour and is believed to have been a gift to a child.

The work, which was first published in 1939, is considered to be rare as Herge worked predominately in black and white.

This artwork has never been offered for sale, Euronews reports.

“It’s really the story of one life,” Artcurial Auction House comics expert Eric Leroy said.

“This person lived with this drawing in her house since her childhood, as she met Herge when she was a little girl, and she received it as a gift.”
