The moment the driver of a Range Rover lost control on an icy road in Russia and plunged 20 metres off an overpass has been captured on camera.

Vision from two separate security cameras showing the crash, which occurred in Sochi, was posted online Monday.

The footage shows a white sedan almost losing it on a gentle curve and clipping the safety barrier on the overpass just moments before the Range Rover Evoque, which appears to moving at a decent speed, locks up on the slick bitumen.

The protective barrier then becomes a ramp; the vehicle's front right tyre mounts the wall and the car is launched into thin air.

A second camera shows the devastating result as the vehicle comes crashing down onto the road below, having fallen some 20 metres.

Luckily there is no person or vehicle beneath; the 4WD flies down and impacts with the ground on the driver's side, taking out a street sign and rolling over until it comes to a halt, right side up.

A sedan coming from the opposite direction stops short in front of the totalled vehicle and the driver gets out and rushes over and wrenches the passenger door of the Range Rover open.

One man emerges from the passenger side, seemingly unhurt; the pair then pull open the driver's door and a second man, also able to walk, gets out.
