A railway worker with lightning quick reflexes has stopped a Chinese university student from throwing herself in front of a train in an apparent suicide attempt.

The woman was standing on a platform at the railway station in the south eastern province of Fujian on Wednesday afternoon when she suddenly bolted forward just as a train was entering the station, The Shanghaiist reports.

CCTV shows the woman lunging toward the edge of the platform and railway worker Weng Jianzhong leaping out to grab her arm a split second later.

The pair both fall to the ground with the worker smashing his head on the concrete in his desperation to save the woman’s life.

The struggling worker just manages to pull the woman’s legs - which were dangling over the edge of the platform – clear as train rumbles past.
