Trump rally honours aid worker killed in ISIS captivity

Donald Trump claimed to have wiped out "100 per cent" of the Islamic State caliphate as he spoke in Arizona, the home state of a female American aid worker killed after she was caught by the extremists.

US commandos named the 2019 mission which left IS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi dead 'Operation Kayla Mueller', in honour of the 26-year-old humanitarian worker.

Mr Trump hailed "American warriors" for killing al-Baghdadi, who blew himself up after he was chased down a tunnel by US special forces and a tracker dog, while trying to escape his hideout in in north-west Syria.

"As many of you know, Kayla came right here from Prescott, Arizona," Mr Trump told the crowd. While honouring her, he asked everyone to stand and spoke about the mission to kill al-Baghdadi.

The president then claimed if he had been in charge of the White House earlier, instead of Barack Obama, "she would have been here with us today".

"We obliterated the ISIS, one hundred per cent. He was looking to build the caliphate again and we got him."

In February 2015, Ms Mueller's family announced ISIS had confirmed her death to them in an e-mail.

Ms Mueller's family expressed frustration that the Obama administration did not do more to negotiate her release from IS.

Speaking in Arizona, where the population is one-third Hispanic, Mr Trump tried to appeal to Latino voters, claiming Democrat hopeful Joe Biden would be terrible for their American dreams.

"Biden would obliterate everything Hispanic Americans have worked for, wiping out your small businesses with lockdowns and regulations, and devastating your families with massive tax hikes," he said.

Mr Trump said Mr Biden would "wage war" on Catholic organisations, ban charter schools and bankrupt Catholic schools.

If Mr Biden took charge of the White House, Mr Trump said his opposite would fund "extreme late term abortions and let socialists run wild in our country".
