Bone-jarring images of para gliders smashing into tree

What was intended to be a peaceful flight over the snowy peaks of Slovakia by two para gliders ended up a bone-jarring crash into a tree.

Video posted to YouTube on Monday captured in excruciating detail the full impact of a man striking a tree just seconds after he started his flight.

Footage taken from behind the paraglider shows him, wearing a safety helmet, jumping from a wooded hill.

He successfully steers to avoid one tree but then another looms as he fights to climb and avoid it.

But as a woman's voice shouts to him from behind, he runs out of time smashing into the top of the tree in bone-jarring footage.

Melting ice and snow on the branches of the tree provide an extra dramatic effect, flying everywhere to add to the slow-motion filming.

He can be heard crying out "Ahhh" as he takes the full impact.

From footage it appeared the following hang glider also hit the tree.

The video ends with what appears to be helmet cam images of one of the para gliders dangling upside down.
