Panty thief's secret lingerie stashes exposed

An alleged underwear thief's secret has come crashing down after his hidden horde fell through the ceiling under the sheer weight of the collected undergarments.

Over the past year around 2000 sets of lingerie had disappeared in the city of Yulin, in China's Guangxi province.

The alleged thief was hiding the pilfered panties inside the ceiling above tiles and in stairwells throughout his apartment building, GXNews reports.

The man's lingerie larceny was laid bare when one of the ceiling tiles fell out and a large swag rained to the ground.

Police lined up the stockpiled bras and panties outside the apartment to show how many the man had allegedly stolen before commencing a search of surrounding buildings.

The alleged panty pirate, identified as Tan, used a master key to enter his neighbours' apartments while they were at work for the day.

Tan, in his 30s, was arrested and is said to have blamed his obsession on a mental illness but was not able to recall for how long he had engaged in the activity, police said.

He admitted to having a life-long obsession with women's lingerie which began when he was a little boy.
