The fortress's two towers stood at three metres tall. (Viking Direct)

Co-workers at the United Kingdom offices of stationery supply brand, Viking, took the company name rather literally when they built a Viking fortress around their desks.

According to the company's blog, the employees built a huge three metre tall cardboard castle in the middle of the office earlier this month.

Four men worked for seven hours throughout the night after they were asked by managers to decorate their working spaces creatively to help beat the post-Christmas blues.

The men, who unsurprisingly work for Viking’s creative team, used more than 500 pieces of waste cardboard and 80 glue sticks to create the prime piece of office real-estate.

Their masterpiece was complete with two towers and a functioning drawbridge.

Sadly, the castle was ‘demolished’ yesterday after management told the creative team it needed to be removed to “restore normality.”

Another piece of Viking history, lost forever.
