Norwegian school student's near miss with truck 'difficult to watch'

Alarming video has been released in Norway showing why you should always slow down around school buses.

The footage, which was filmed on June 19 but has just been made public, shows a school bus dropping off five children in Gol, a small town in the southern county of Buskerud.

Two of the kids try to cross the busy highway unaware that a semi-trailer, the view of which is blocked by traffic, is approaching from the other side of the road.

One of the students runs straight out in front of the truck, which manages to skid to a stop just in time.

Another truck driver, whose dashcam filmed it all, had sent a warning signal to the other driver, potentially saving the student’s life, local news website NRK reports.

The principal of the students’ school, Ingebjørg By Teigen told the website it was difficult to watch the video and see how close the accident was to having a tragic outcome.

The school was now reviewing its road safety procedures, she said.
