The cyber security company Kaspersky Lab is monitoring the malware and has compared its effects to the WannaCry and Petya attacks that inflected widespread chaos earlier this year.

The company says most victims are in Russia, and experts think the ransomware appears infected devices through the hacked Russian media websites.

Odessa Airport and the Kiev Metro in Ukraine have also been affected.

The hackers behind Bad Rabbit are locking computers down and demanding 0.05 Bitcoin ($370) from victims in exchange for restoring their machines to normal use.
