Dutch mayor says Putin's daughter should be 'thrown out' of country

Russian President Vladimir Putin's daughter Maria has reportedly been found living in the Netherlands, sparking calls for her deportation.

Mayor of Dutch town Hilversum, Pieter Broertjes, said in a radio interview that she should be "thrown out" of the country.

He later retracted the comments on Twitter, calling them "unwise" but claiming he spoke from grief in the face of the MH17 tragedy.

"This stemmed from a feeling of helplessness that many people will recognise," he said.

Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf also reported that there were calls for a "peaceful protest" outside Maria Putin's apartment block near The Hague.
