A military parachutist has miraculously survived a mishap during a training exercise in which she crashed through high-voltage power lines and received an electric shock after causing a small explosion.

The female military officer can be seen parachuting to the ground in footage filmed by an onlooker.

She can be seen careering towards the power lines, unable to change her course due to the wind.

As her feet hit the high-voltage power lines, a loud bang can be heard and sparks fly from the wires.

She then dangles metres from the ground, with her parachute caught on the wires, until they give way and she falls to the ground.

The soldier was part of a training exercise at the Kuda Oya Army Camp, in Sri Lanka's south.

"The female soldier had suffered minor burn injuries when she fell on a high tension wire," army spokesperson Brigadier Roshan Seneviratne told Sri Lanka's Daily Mirror newspaper.

She was not the only one soldier during the training exercise.

A male soldier was also transported to hospital after injuring his ankle during an incorrect landing attempt.

Footage of the accident was uploaded to YouTube last Monday by university student Chamuka Dilshan and has since been viewed more than 178,500 times.
