Melbourne trio dramatically arrested after shot fired at police car

Heavily armed officers have swooped on a Melbourne car park and arrested three people after a shot was fired at a marked police vehicle.

A man and two women were cornered in the car park of the Werribee Plaza shopping centre at around 6pm last night.

The arrest was captured by an onlooker and showed a swarm of officers surrounding the car.

The 23-year-old man is under police guard in hospital and an 18-year-old woman has been charged and bailed on unrelated matters.

A 21-year-old woman has been deemed unfit to be interviewed by police.

Suspected thieves shot at a police car just before 3.30am yesterday morning after police stopped chasing a stolen ute in Werribee.

The ute then did a U-turn, drove towards the marked police car and fired a single shot.

No one was injured in the shooting.

"We have people that have discharged a shot towards uniformed police for no apparent reason," Armed Crime Squad Detective Inspector Stephen Clark told reporters yesterday.

"That’s a real concern."

The ute was stolen from Braybrook on Monday night.
