Man bitten by alligator while washing hands in pond
A Florida man who was washing his hands in a pond has been bitten by an alligator.
The man was bitten yesterday morning in a pond in the city of Sanibel in the state's south.
He was able to free himself and call 911.

Others nearby were able to apply a tourniquet before paramedics arrived to take him to a nearby hospital.
The City of Sanibel said in a statement the man suffered serious injuries to his right forearm.
Florida Fish and Wildlife, along with a Florida State trapper, are at the scene in an attempt to capture the alligator.
Alligators are less aggressive than crocodiles, but attacks can be fatal. AP
American alligators can grow up to 4.6m long and weigh up to 450kg.
Alligators are considered apex predators.
Attacks on humans are reasonably rare, and alligators are typically less aggressive than their larger cousin, the crocodile.
