An Italian man under house arrest has asked to be transferred to jail saying he can no longer handle the constant fighting with his wife.

The 37-year-old father-of-three from Rome man has spent three months confined to his home but doesn't think he can see out his eight-month sentence for a string of minor offences, Il Messagero reports.

"Put me inside, otherwise it will end badly," the unnamed man told police.

"I'd be better off in jail."

On Tuesday the authorities granted the petty criminal his wish transferring him to Rome's Regina Coeli prison.

He is reportedly not the first Italian man who preferred jail to being confined in his home.

Earlier this year a Tuscan man on drug charges asked to be sent to jail to get away from his wife.
