Soap ‘made from Holocaust victims’ pulled from eBay after Dutch man’s attempted sale

A Dutch man is talking to police after he reportedly tried to sell a bar of soap he claimed was made from the fat of Holocaust victims on eBay.

Prosecutors blocked the sale, and eBay removed the item from its site as soon as it went live, the Daily Mail has reported.

The man who tried to sell the soap handed himself in to the police, as well as turning over the two bars of soap in his possession.

The bars are now being tested to see if they contain human remains.

A long-standing rumour that the Nazis were using the remains of Jewish concentration camp inmates to make items including soap and lampshades, started in mid-WWII.

Although there is no evidence of mass production of soap containing human fat from the camps, it is believed it may have happened on a small scale.

However, the enterprise was too repugnant even for the Nazis, with SS chief Heinrich Himmler stopping the practice after ordering an investigation in 1942.

There has been an outcry from Jewish groups over the Dutch vendor's attempt to sell the soap, which was discovered near the Dutch concentration camp of Westerbork.

Ron Eisemann from the Dutch Jewish group CIDI said it was "saddening and disgusting" that people would look to profit off the Holocaust.
