Bride-to-be Stephanie Scott's accused killer hated to be touched, never had a girlfriend, according to childhood colleagues

More than two weeks after Vincent Stanford was charged with the murder of NSW bride-to-be Stephanie Scott, new information has emerged about the 24-year-old’s life in Holland before he moved to the regional town of Leeton.

Mr Stanford grew up in the Dutch city of Zoetermeer, not far from Amsterdam, where he reportedly lived a hermit-like existence in a townhouse with his mother and brothers. Friends, who described him as quiet, said the house was filthy, overgrown and frequented by stray cats.

As a child, Mr Stanford also reportedly hated being touched and disliked his hair cut, as well as lacking basic skills, such as being able to use a knife and fork.

Growing up, Mr Stanford never had a girlfriend and shied away from talking to women.

After school Richard and Mireille Antonisse took the young man under their wing, giving him a job at their cleaning business.

“I couldn't believe it, I really couldn't believe it,” Mrs Antonisse told 9NEWS.

“I searched for information on the Internet- I was like totally flabbergasted, I was like “this isn't happening”.”

The couple said Mr Stanford had a “good heart” and that they helped teach him the skills he would later take on to use while working as a school cleaner in Leeton, where Ms Scott was a teacher.

“Two years he was with me, every day sitting in my car,” Mr Antonisse said.

“He was sitting in my car, we eat, sleep, etc.”

Mr Stanford returned to Australia about a year ago and is now in custody, facing a murder charge over Ms Scott’s death.

She disappeared only days before she due was to marry her fiancée Aaron Leeson-Woolley.
