Trump's most prominent Republican critic Liz Cheney loses re-election
Donald Trump's most prominent internal party critics has lost her seat in Congress.
Liz Cheney, who led calls to impeach Trump as president after the January 6 insurrection, has been ousted in a Republican primary.
At the current count Cheney has less than a third of the vote in the Wyoming at-large congressional seat, which she has held since 2017.

Her rival, Harriet Hageman, has declared victory with 65 per cent of the vote.
"Two years ago I won this primary with 73 per cent of the vote. I could've done so again," Cheney said in her concession.
"The path was clear. But it would've required that I went along with President Trump's lie about the 2020 election."

Trump gloated about Cheney's defeat on his social media site Truth Social.
"Liz Cheney should be ashamed of herself, the way she acted, and her spiteful, sanctimonious words and actions towards others," he wrote.
"Now she can finally disappear into the depths of political oblivion."
Until last year, Cheney had been seen as an up-and-comer in the Republican party, climbing the ranks rapidly to become chair of the House Republican conference.
But she was bumped from the position after she voted to impeach Trump.
Cheney came from a Wyoming political dynasty. Her father Dick served as vice president to George W Bush from 2001 to 2009.

Of those, four have been defeated for re-election by Republican party challengers.
Four others have retired. Only two have won primaries for their seats.
Cheney's seat, which accounts for the entirety of the state of Wyoming, is one of the most conservative parts of the country.
Seventy per cent of the least populous state in the USA cast their ballots for Donald Trump in 2020.
